PINO SPINELLI

Biography

Pino Spinelli, water-colour’s teacher, graphic artist, author of oil-painting and wall painting, ceramics’ painter, borns on 5th of August 1913 in Villa Raverio, the parents’ name are Pietro Spinelli and Giuditta Gatti. He grows up in a modest family and loses the father in young age. With a vivacious character the little Spinelli has set out for school in the Seveso’s seminar, but in the age of 15, he leaves it and studies alone. It has been told that in age of 17, he locks himself in an attic and prepers himself like an external student for the exams to the Zucchi liceo from Monza:  he gets the school leaving certificate, in ‘31 he obtains the teachers’ diploma in Milan (he gets in drawing 10 and philosophy 7), teaching in the schools of Carate, Besana and Milan. In youth, he has been a student of the painter Bardalonga for different years, from which he learns to treat the figure with depth. Called in the army during the second world war, he fights like a brave officier and he has injured a leg. In '45, he gets married and establishes himself in Desio; Ines became his wife for all the life. In ’50 he meets Aldo Raimondi from which he has encouraged to begin the difficult watercolour’s technics. Later he joined to Renato Birolli; Spinelli deepened the themes, and was pushed from him in the development of the fresco and graffiti. In this period it is the execution of graffiti for public and private buildings (for example Banco di Desio). Not attending officials schools, he becomes one of the best watercolour painter. He did not ever follow artistic current, neither of right, neither of left, giving himself up exclusively at the painting. He acquires a studio in Milan, in via Gran Sasso and begins to produce his frescos commissioned from known families from Lombardy and from Institutes of Credit. Since’56, as a graphic artist, he gets ready the first advertising colored manifestos, for Polenghi, Star, Invernizzi, Mauri and Molteni, the brand "Montana" and the brand "Birra Italia". Projecting a stand (Molteni firm) for the Campionaria Fair from Milan, he follows the best prize like winner: “L’Aquila d’oro”. The series of the artistic calendars starts in collaboration with "La Propaganda" from Milan and "Arti Grafiche" from Bergamo. His paintings illustrates on the calendars that makes advertising the most important italian firms.

A big fresco has located at the Banco di Desio’s branch in Cesano Maderno. The opera represents an artisan shop from Cesano Maderno disposed near Torrazzo with the view from Palazzo Borromeo, with an artisan, an apprentice and purchases (with the money’s purse in the hand). The opera, with an indubitable value, it can be looked on demand at the Banco di Desio’s branch. Spinelli realized it in the post  war-period;  the Cesano Maderno’s artisans had done the emblem for the Furniture’s Exposition. A symbol that remains indelible in the time.

The operas of the artist are located also in the hall council of Borghetto Santo Spirito’s cityhall (Savona), in Cesano Maderno’s cityhall, inside Veneranda Fabricca del Duomo di Milano, a big graffito is located in the school F. Caracciolo from Affori-Milano, one fresco that represents the Annunciation in the San Rocco’s church from Desio. In '65 he gets a great critic in the personal art – exhibition realized at Galleria Gussoni from Milano, then to Bolzani and Nuovo Sagittario. In '76 he follows the Art Trophy “Premio Internazionale” in Campione d’Italia combined with Bruno Lauzi. In '83 the italian president Pertini confers him the Knight’s Honour, in '89, another italian president Cossiga makes Offical with the mention “Giuseppe Spinelli called Pino for the artistic merits in the art world”. The death picks him on 5th september 1994 in Desio, where he lived with the family. The specialized and daily press reports the news remembering his artistic quality. Today his son Pietro Luca Spinelli, diligently, keeps alive his artistic figure with Retrospective Expositions.
